Wear OS is finally compatible with eSIM!
The version Wear OS 2.17 is compatible with the virtual eSIM cards. This is extremely handy when it comes to saving space in the smartwatch. But it was time too!
The future of smartwatches is getting closer. In a constantly evolving marketplace, Wear OS, the Android clock operating system, is taking the next step. The version Wear OS 2.17 is compatible with the virtual eSIM cards. This is extremely handy when it comes to saving space in the smartwatch. But it was time too!
The eSIM is so slowly entering our lives. Although there is still a long way to go to replace the classic SIM card completely, the market for the virtual SIM card is ready – for smartphones, especially Apple with the iPhone XS. Now it’s the turn of the Android smartwatch, also a step after Apple. The Apple Watch Series 3 was the brand’s first smartwatch to incorporate an eSIM into its watch. Some Samsung models had them, as well as the Huawei Watch 2 (2018) – the latter but not in Europe. It was a logical and necessary step for the Android operating system for wearables to comply with this compatibility now.
eSIM for the Android Watches of the Future
As reported by Android Police, the new Wear OS 2.17 update includes eSIM support. The upcoming new generation of Android smartwatches will likely bring the eSIM. This is a more practical and space-saving solution for manufacturers.
Would the eSIM be an argument for you to buy a watch with Wear OS?
